That slide is so cool! I need to learn how to do that! It is so nice to meet your class. I really liked reading about all the students. Jorja Rose made me laugh with her addiction to horses and Chase the dog looks just like my dog (who right now, is sitting on the couch looking outside, waiting for other dogs to walk by). By the way, what does Aroha mean? I am from Wisconsin and have not heard this word before.

Thank you for these lovely comments about our group slide show. We just made it with Google Slides and most students used Cartoonify as the tool for their avatars – as their teacher I feel very proud of the work, and the cool statements about themselves and their whanau (family).
In New Zealand we have two official languages, English and Maori. (There is also NZ sign language.) Everywhere you go in New Zealand you will find place names in Maori, and in the last 30 years or so, many Maori words have moved into common use. Aroha means love = very like ‘aloha’ in Hawaiian, because there is a link there.
In these times, something else which is common is to say ‘Kia Kaha’, be strong. My message to you.

That is so awesome to hear. I recently listened to a podcast about the fight to rename Mt. Cook (and how it took many years of discussions for the government to apologize to many New Zealanders for their poor treatment over the years) and am fascinated with the Maori language.
At my school, because it is a Jewish day school, everything is written in Hebrew and English (and our students all learn how to speak Hebrew). I think that is amazing how you are incorporating both languages into you lessons.
