Prompt: …we disappear into the night –

Drops of rain beat against my skin like tiny hammers, my feet slip outwards on the wet autumn leaves as I round the corner with speed.

The cold night air shocks my throat and lungs as I inhale deeper and faster. With each step, immense pain shoots through my ankle to my knee, they are following me!

I wipe the sweat from my forehead, exhausted. My heart starts racing. I know I have to keep going,  they are getting closer, I can smell them. They smell like strong smoky ashes.

We disappear into the night, still in an intense pursuit.
