On the waterfront overlooking the Sydney Opera house, there are statues to commemorate the relationship between Sydney, Australia and Nagoya, Japan.

The display celebrates 40 years of the relationships of the two as sister cities.

A sister city is a city from a different country, that forms a relationship to prompt social, commercial and cultural ties or exchanges.

The statues on the waterfront are all sorts of colours, some are two different colours. The colours could be to represent the acceptance of varies cultures, races and religions.

Christchurch has sister cities in United Kingdom, Korea, Australia, Japan, USA and China.
